DIY Valentine's Craft Roundup: 3 Easy Projects

DIY Valentine's Craft Roundup: 3 Easy Projects

You know I love a fun DIY that’s useful and cute!

Valentine’s Day is one of our favorite seasons for crafting because it's the perfect excuse to slow down, think of people we love, and make something heartfelt with our own two hands. My kids and I have tried a ton of Valentine’s projects over the years and these three always top the list for being quick, cute, and totally gift‑worthy.

Here's a round up the ones that we’ve loved most so you and your kids can create something beautiful together.

1. DIY Mini Canvas Painting:

  • Why we love it: Tiny canvases feel extra special—and they’re just the right size for desk décor or keepsakes.

  • What you need: 4×4″ mini canvases, acrylic paints, fine‑tip brushes.

  • Quick tip: Draw a simple heart outline in pencil first—then let each child fill it in with patterns, names, or doodles.

  • Gift idea: Attach a mini easel or magnet on the back for easy display.

Make this simple and cute mini canvas with your kiddos special  artwork on it to give as a gift or hangup. See full tutorial.

2. Yarn Initial Keychain:

  • Why we love it: Personal, practical, and great for gifting to friends or teachers.

  • What you need: Cardboard, yarn or fabric scraps, small key‑ring hoops, scissors, (glue optional).

  • Quick tip: Cut out letter with cardboard and wrap the yarn tightly around the letter, glue the yarn in small spots to keep in place (optional), attach the ring hoop or tie a loop for hanging—then add a tassel on it for extra flair.

  • Gift idea: Tie on a tiny tag with a sweet message like “I love you."

This one is so fun to make for gifting and making it personal for friends. See full tutorial.

3. Toilet Paper Roll Heart Garland:

  • Why we love it: It’s practically free, super durable, and looks darling strung across a mantel or window.

  • What you need: Empty rolls, pink/red craft paint, ribbon or string.

  • Quick tip: Paint several rolls ahead of time and let the kids cut and assemble—less mess, more fun!

  • Gift idea: Bundle a few hearts on ribbon, tie with a bow, and hand to a friend as a sweet decor set.

We’ve loved making this year after year for a cute decoration piece for the holiday. Super easy and cheap too! See full tutorial.

Creative Tip:

Make it intentional and set aside a day to make a Valentine’s crafting party for the morning or invite some friends over to create together. Here's how to turn crafting into a mini celebration:
  • Pick a date: Even 30 minutes after school counts.
  • Set the scene: Snacks (heart‑shaped cookies!), pink punch, and a big tablecloth.
  • Invite a couple friends: Sharing ideas sparks new inspiration.

You’ll make memories, and the kids will feel like VIPs.
