How to Make a Birthday Party Easy & Meaningful with Things You Already Have at Home| Norah's First Birthday
__
It only took a little over a month but we finally celebrated Norah’s first birthday with a sweet little party earlier this month. I’m still in shock that she is already a year old. Fastest year of my life EVER! I know I say that with every kid as I’m sure every mama does, but something about having 6 others to keep up with while a baby is growing into their first year of life just makes it fly even faster than I ever knew possible. So having a party to celebrate her is the closest thing I can think of to bottling up this moment in time so we can have these memories to look back on for years to come. With the start of summer and getting ready to head out of town on our bus trip, I knew I wanted to keep this party as simple as possible. Most might say it’s silly to plan a party for a one year old when life is already so busy, but it’s moments like these that I cherish most in life. The ones where we make space to celebrate even for just a couple hours in the morning for brunch and singing happy birthday. Sure, she may not remember it, but it’s the memories we’re creating with a party that make me feel like I can hold onto these fleeting moments a little longer. And I know it will be a gift to her someday to look back on these photos and remember how we celebrated her being in our family and loved her in this way.
I know as mamas we have so much on our plates already, so I wanted to share with you how you can make a party so simple and still meaningful in an easy and tangible way too. If you joined The Creative Haven last month you can make your own party just like this with the things I made for you inside there.

Because I wanted to keep it as easy as possible I decided to use things I already had around the house that I use over and over again for all my kids' parties. My much loved drop cloth (the most versatile, simple, and still aesthetically pleasing piece of “decor” you can buy!) Then I used the paper flowers I painted from the printables inside The Creative Haven to use as decor around the table and on the cupcake and cake toppers, making the party into a sweet garden themed celebration.
How to make a garden party using The Creative Haven printables:
- First print out the pages the Paper Nature Crown pages with all the watercolor florals and leaves on them
- Cut out each piece you want to use for decorations
- Scatter flowers around your table decor to add some color and beauty
- Optional: take your paper flower and tape them to jute and turn it into a garland to hang above your table or as a backdrop
- I also used the printables for the paper binoculars inside the bundle and cut out the patterns into triangles to make a little hanging banner above the table. Cut them out in triangle shapes and tape them to the back of string and hang! Super easy.
- Take some of your paper flower cut outs and tape them to the back of toothpicks to stick inside your treats and birthday cake. Use a few on top of a cake to add a little more fun and interest.
I seriously planned this party in no time and I promise anyone can make this happen for their little ones too. Even for older kids you can use the paper nature crown inside the printable bundle to make a fun activity for the kids to do or use the coloring pages to entertain littler ones.
I hope this at least gives you a few ideas to get your creativity flowing and jumpstart more creative ways to use these for your own celebrations! Don’t forget to show me when you do. Seeing your creations come to life brings me so much joy.
